Coming up to Uluru in the heart of Australia, I knew my 4WD had almost had it. I had been driving for over 3 weeks now just to make it here. I was finally there and I could say it was worth it.

Staring down the road through the dirty windscreen of the Toyota my heart skipped a beat as I recalled the moments of my childhood. Dad would sometimes let me drive the old bush bashed through our farm when coming home from a day on the land. I really didn’t think I would miss the days working as a small child.

I used the exhaust of the car to blow up my air bed as I got my swag out to prepare for my first night under the stars, in I didn’t know how long. Lying there all I thought was thank you Toyota. There was no way I could have made this journey without the brute strength of the car next to me.

The 4WD was over 10 years old yet never skipped a beat on the entire 3450 km journey through marsh scrub, dirt roads, paved roads and paths that many people would simply consider too dangerous.
